Information Given To Trump About Nigeria Incorrect – Oba Akiolu

The Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, on Sunday took a retrospective look at the decisions and utterances made by United States President Donald Trump and concluded that they were based on unverified Intelligence reports.

Speaking during a special media parley to mark his 82nd birthday and 22 years on the throne, Oba Akiolu expressed worry over the far-reaching implications of such actions by world leaders.

He emphasised the importance of global figures thoroughly verifying intelligence reports before making pronouncements that could impact nations’ reputations and international relations.

Trump’s administration had on Friday designated Nigeria as a CPC over alleged acts of genocide and religious persecution against Christians.

The decision has since generated mixed reactions from various quarters, including President Bola Tinubu, religious leaders, and other notable figures.

Reacting to the development, Oba Akiolu maintained that the Trump administration acted on inaccurate information, insisting that the intelligence relied upon by the U.S. government did not reflect the actual situation in Nigeria.

“The report used by the U.S. president was not properly verified and does not represent the reality in Nigeria,” the monarch said, urging global leaders to ensure due diligence in handling sensitive international matters.”

According to Akiolu, “Apparently, U.S President Trump does not have correct intelligence information on alleged Christian persecution in Nigeria.

“The true information is that  Christians and Muslims are one in Nigeria. He should take time to gather correct, intelligent information. What they are telling him now is false.”
