‘It’s Nature Of Politics’, Oshiomhole Comments On Shaibu’s Return To APC

Senator Adams Oshiomhole has characterised Philip Shaibu’s return to the All Progressives Congress (APC) as part of the “nature of politics.”

Shaibu, who has been reinstated as deputy governor of Edo State, was previously a protégé of Oshiomhole, the former governor of the South-South state. The two had a falling out following Governor Godwin Obaseki and Shaibu’s second term win, which led them to leave the APC for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Despite Shaibu’s return to the APC after his fallout with Obaseki, Oshiomhole described his actions as typical in political dynamics.

“Well, that is the nature of politics. Whatever mistakes you have made, if you realise and have the courage to admit your errors and correct them, it is still commendable,” said Oshiomhole, who represents Edo North in the Senate.

He noted that membership in a political party is a voluntary decision, and the party’s actions are regulated by the APC constitution, the Electoral Act, and the Nigerian Constitution.

Oshiomhole acknowledged that while Shaibu’s loyalty may be questioned due to his past actions, time will reveal the true nature of his commitment.

Shaibu’s return to Benin City was marked by turmoil, including the killing of a police officer attached to the APC governorship candidate for the Edo election, Monday Okpebholo.

Following the incident, Shaibu’s camp and the Edo State government have exchanged accusations. An investigation is underway, but Oshiomhole has called for further action from the police.

He urged the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun to ensure that the Edo Police Commissioner, Funsho Adegboye, identifies and prosecutes those responsible for the violence.

“The police commissioner must fulfil his duty to apprehend and prosecute those responsible,” Oshiomhole asserted.
