JAMB Remains Requirement For Admission Into Nigerian Tertiary Institutions – FG

The Federal Government says the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) remains the requisite requirement for admission into tertiary institutions in Nigeria.

This was contained in a statement made available by the spokesperson for the Federal Ministry of Education, Boriowo Folasade.

She disputed allegations that the government had cancelled the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), stating that the Ministry had never issued or authorised such a statement.

“For the avoidance of doubt, JAMB remains the statutory and legally empowered body responsible for conducting entrance examinations and coordinating admissions into all tertiary institutions in Nigeria,” the statement read.

“The established admission processes through JAMB remain fully operational, and any contrary information should be disregarded in its entirety.”

According to the statement, Tunji Alausa, Minister of Education, restated the ministry’s unshakeable commitment to JAMB and other relevant organisations to ensure openness, fairness, and merit in Nigeria’s higher education admission system.

He stated that the federal government is dedicated to ensuring the process’s integrity.

Rumours began to circulate on social media that the government’s recent revision of admission standards had removed the UTME.

The government had in the review made it possible for candidates without a credit in Mathematics in their Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) to get admissions into programmes in the Faculty of Arts.

The reform, according to the government, is to expand access of candidates to tertiary institutions.
