The Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps, also known as KAI, on Monday night, carried out an extensive overnight operation aimed at improving security and maintaining order in Ikoyi and Victoria Island.

The patrols, which covered key areas such as Idowu Martins, Ozumba Mbadiwe, Akin Adesola, Samuel Manuwa, Muri Okunola, Ajose Adeogun, Lugard Avenue, and Macdonald Road, yielded significant results.

The operation highlights the ongoing efforts by LAGESC to ensure that Lagos remains a secure and orderly city for its inhabitants.

A statement issued on Tuesday by the Commissioner, Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, after the operation, detailed the success of the exercise.

“Over the course of the night, the dedicated operatives of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC) patrol team covered key areas including Idowu Martins, Ozumba Mbadiwe, Akin Adesola, Samuel Manuwa, Muri Okunola, Ajose Adeogun, Lugard Avenue, Macdonald Road, and other areas in Ikoyi and Victoria Island,” the statement partly read.

Wahab also confirmed the arrest of 49 individuals involved in illicit activities during the operation.

“The operation aimed to enhance security and maintain order across these neighbourhoods. In the course of the patrols, 49 miscreants and illegal street traders were apprehended, reinforcing our commitment to ensuring a safe and orderly environment for residents and businesses”, the commissioner added.

Wahab expressed optimism about the positive impact of the patrols, noting a return to normalcy in the affected areas.

“I am pleased to report that calm and sanity are gradually returning to Ikoyi and Victoria Island”, he said.

Speaking further, Wahab encouraged residents to remain vigilant and proactive in reporting any suspicious activities.

“Your continued cooperation is vital—if you notice any suspicious activity, do not hesitate to report it. Together, we can build safer communities”, he concluded.
