The National Service Commission has approved the appointment of Andrew Nwoba as the new Clerk of the Senate.

The appointment, which takes effect from December 11, 2024, was confirmed during the commission’s meeting on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, a statement by the Director of Information, Emmanuel Anyigor, on Monday, stated.

No fewer than 30 top officials will be retiring alongside the clerk to the National Assembly, Magaji Tambawal.

Based on parliamentary practices, Tambawal began his pre-retirement leave on November 1, 2024, having handed over to his deputy, Kamouroudeen Ogundele.

According to an official document received by our correspondent, prominent staffers of the National Assembly who would also be leaving are the Clerk to the Senate, Chinedu Akabueze, the Deputy Clerk to the Senate, and the Deputy Clerk of the House of Representatives.

Others are 11 directors, six deputy directors, one assistant director, and two other directors at the National Assembly Service Commission.

Following their retirement, the commission appointed Nwoba and also reshuffled some appointments.

He was the Secretary of the Directorate of Legislative Budget and Planning before his promotion.

The statement read, “In addition to Nwoba’s appointment, the NASC approved other significant changes within the National Assembly’s bureaucracy.

“Mr. Emmanuel Oda was appointed Deputy Clerk (Administration), Senate, while Vivien N. Njemanze was named Deputy Clerk (Administration), House of Representatives.

“Dr. Obasi D. Ukoha succeeds Nwoba as Secretary of the Directorate of Legislative Budget and Planning.”

Further adjustments included the redeployment of Mr. Rawlings Agada from Deputy Clerk (Administration), Senate, to Deputy Clerk (Legislative), Senate, and Florence Kehinde who moved from Deputy Clerk (Administration), House of Representatives, to Deputy Clerk (Legislative), House of Representatives.

Earlier, the Commission approved the appointments of Ogundayo Mofoluwake Olufunmilayo as Secretary of the Directorate of Special Duties, Alkali Umar Abubakar as Secretary of the Directorate of Human Resource & Staff Development, and Essien Eyo Essien as Secretary of the Directorate of Zonal Liaison Offices.
