President Bola Tinubu, on Sunday, expressed the Federal Government’s recommit to ending the threat of HIV and free treatment for HIV, ensuring no one is left.

President Tinubu, who gave the assurance at the 2024 World AIDS Day Celebration in Abuja, also commended the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA).

According to him, the current prevalence as well as vertical transmission of HIV from mothers to children is an indication of the substantial responsibility that lies ahead of Nigeria.

President Tinubu said the Federal government remains committed to sustaining the gains made over the past two decades on HIV control as work intensifies on eliminating HIV among children in the nation.

He stated “Our administration remains committed to sustaining the gains made over the past two decades.

“Through the leadership of NACA, we continue to provide free treatment for HIV to all persons living with HIV, ensuring no one is left behind.

“Our collective efforts have mobilised resources to keep people on life-saving treatment and delivered prevention services that maintain 98.7percent of Nigerians as HIV-negative.

“As we work towards eliminating HIV among children, I am encouraged by the planned vaccine trial, which marks a groundbreaking milestone in our response.

“Under NACA’s coordination, this initiative represents hope for the future where no child is born with HIV, and Nigeria fulfill its promise of an HIV generation.

“Together, let us stay the course, strengthen partnerships, and accelerate our efforts to make this vision a reality. With determination and collective action, we will end AIDS as a public health threat by 2030.”
