Barring last-minute change of plans, Nigeria will host the International Qur’anic Recitation competition in August this year.

The event, which will feature participants from about 20 countries, is spearheaded by a former member representing Bassa/Jos North federal constituency of Plateau State, Muhammad Adam Alkali

A statement made available to journalists on Thursday said the event will kick off in Jos, Plateau State capital, with the finale slated to hold in Abuja.

At a preparatory meeting, Alkali expressed his gratitude to the Centre for Islamic Studies, Usman Danfodio University Sokoto (UDUS) for what he described as robust support.

He articulated the event’s mission to include promoting Islamic values and fostering unity, passionately affirming that the Holy Qur’an serves as the ultimate guide for Muslims striving for a meaningful life.

Alkali acknowledged the previous attempts by distinguished Nigerians to launch an International Qur’anic Recitation Competition, which faced challenges but paved the way for this long-awaited event.

He assured stakeholders that he would continue to engage them actively to guarantee a successful and memorable competition.

The chairman of the Organising Committee, Gwani Sadiq Zamfara, outlined the significant progress made thus far, ensuring all preparations were in place for a seamless event. He extended heartfelt thanks to the sponsor for his unwavering dedication and commitment to bringing this vision to fruition.

Countries expected to participate include Cameroon, Ghana, Chad, Senegal, Kenya, Tanzania, Mauritania, Niger, Egypt, Morocco, Libya, Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Malaysia, England, the UAE, and the USA. Each country will proudly send male and female participants along with their officials, showcasing the richness of the global Islamic community.
