No Godfatherism In Anambra LP Primary, Says Party Chairman Abure

The National Chairman of the Labour Party, Julius Abure, has assured a former Managing Director of National Inland Waterways Authority, Dr George Moghalu, that he would create a level playing field for every aspirant to compete for the party’s ticket ahead of the November governorship poll in Anambra State.

This was even as the LP national chairman vowed that he had no anointed candidate or personal interest in the April 5 primary election.

Abure made the pledge when Moghalu returned his completed expression of interest and nomination forms to the party secretariat in Abuja on Friday.

He said, “I want you to take it to the bank that it is the people of Anambra and more precisely, LP members that will determine who flies the party ticket.

“I want to appeal to you to go back to Anambra to do the needful by endearing yourself to the people, especially members of the party responsible for electing the candidate.

“I want to say without any equivocation that there will not be godfatherism and we have no anointed aspirant, and the process will not be skewed towards an aspirant, and I assure you again that the process will be free, fair and credible.

“When we find men of goodwill, we open our arms to receive them. Little wonder we open all our arms to receive you when you come to join the LP. We believe, looking at your trajectory, that you are one of those credible individuals we feel, if given the ticket, will do good to the people of Anambra.”

Earlier in his address, Moghalu thanked the party’s leadership for giving him the opportunity.

The former NIWA boss also promised not to disappoint the party as he strives to clinch the LP ticket and ultimately defeat the incumbent Governor Charles Soludo at the November election.

He said, “Mr Chairman, I assure you that I will not let you down. I am going into this race, the governorship of our State, with the determination to win the election, and we shall win by the grace of God.

“I acknowledge with all sincerity that power belongs to God, and He gives it to whom He pleases. What we have done is to make ourselves available and for God to make the decision. Allowing me to fly the flag of our party provides us with the opportunity to have a State we can call our own.”
