The National Senior Secondary Education Commission (NSSEC) will introduce a ranking system for senior secondary schools nationwide, based on the minimum benchmark standards for such schools.

According to the Executive Secretary of the Commission, Dr. Iyela Ajayi, the ranking will help monitor schools’ compliance with the standards set by the federal government. It will also assist parents and guardians in making informed decisions about the schools they choose for their children and wards.

“Just like the National Universities Commission releases ranking for universities, we at NSSEC will also release our ranking for senior secondary schools in the country from next year,” Ajayi said. “The ranking will be based on the minimum benchmark standards for senior secondary schools. This will focus on the qualifications of teachers, the infrastructure, adherence to curriculum, and all. The ranking will enable parents and guardians to make decisions as regards the choice of schools they want to put their children in.”

Ajayi further shared that the Commission is working towards the revitalisation of 50 senior secondary schools across the country, following a special intervention by the National Assembly.

“The plan is to revitalise 50 senior secondary schools across the country. We are the only agency under education that has not received the two per cent CRF. The National Assembly gave a special intervention and said we should revitalise 50 senior secondary schools across the country and work has started,” he added.
