The Ondo State Lounge and Club Owners Association has urged the state and federal governments to investigate a recent EFCC raid on a nightclub and hotel in Akure, where about 127 youths were arrested for suspected internet fraud.

During the early morning raid on June 8, 2024, EFCC operatives allegedly stormed the venues in a forceful manner, causing significant property damage and distress to guests, including newlyweds.

Abayomi Ajepe, the association’s chairman, described the raid as unexpected and chaotic, likening the operatives’ behavior to that of armed robbers. He expressed concern over the negative impact on the local hospitality industry and mentioned that the association is consulting lawyers for potential legal action.

Ayo Abass-Akinwande, manager of Signatures Elixir nightclub, recounted that the EFCC team arrived with unmarked vehicles and used force to control the crowd, including tear gas and snooker sticks. He noted that the club’s CCTV equipment was seized during the raid.

Similarly, Ayo Alabi, CEO of Alba Royale Hotel, confirmed extensive damage to the property and the confiscation of their CCTV system. He criticized the EFCC for not notifying them in advance and demanded accountability for the actions taken.
