If a person who has not entered an office offers to hold sway for a fraction of the allowable time if allowed, I would suspect his motives. Who is to taste and see now? Is it us the citizenry that are to taste Peter Obi, or is it him who desperately just needs to taste the Office of the President of Nigeria? Obi’s desperation for power, has brought up his latest bromide.
For him to offer to spend only four years in office if allowed is suggestive of political radiculopathy; he’s taken to a baby deceit, that amounts to an insult on us all just to be able to taste the office. He assumes that we are credulous and thus cannot even be bothered to come up with something a little labyrinthine to enable us still give credit to our wits by day’s end. He’s planning on playing the all too familiar game where, once he gets in, his political urchins will play up the South-East dirge, and question his short stay in office, and shout to the whole world that only an Igbo man would be so treated even as this would be the first time they would be honchos.
Others will then join in, in the cacophony of voices pushing him to dishonor his commitment. Then he would roll out money to some of his hallelujah boys to sustain the discourse, and then pretend to be “threatened” by his folks all over the world, which he would then claim was the reason to renege on his pledge and capitulate; and that, my friends, would be Game Over! We are too familiar with such scripts, and cannot be deceived. I have repeatedly said it that Peter Obi’s politics of the “Chichidodo” has become his greatest undoing. He has now resorted to deceit- the way he deceived his people that they were moving up when he was saving their money in the bank, most probably in Fidelity Bank, to serve his interest and mental fix.
In seeking to be president, Peter Obi has played different roles in the drama script, including subservient roles. He has worn too many faces to be a real man. He has been: an usher, a waiter, a town crier, a labourer, a one wristwatch man, a one shoe man, a donor, a philanthropist, a “we-no-dey-give-shishi” man, a yes-daddy man, a tribal jingoist, a religious parochialist, an errand boy, a mobile politician, and a Catholic Charismatic; he’s segued from APGA to PDP, to Labour, and now to ADC, and to COALITION, all in his desperation to taste power FOR FOUR YEARS, ONLY! Please don’t laugh! Should such a mercurial character be trusted?
Haba, Peter! Where hath thou possess the magic wand to launch Nigeria into a highway of development in four years? You were governor of Anambra State for EIGHT good years, and all that you got from your people were curses for the untold suffering they underwent at your hands. You couldn’t and didn’t turn your state into an eldorado even of sorts, instead you mortgaged the future of your people; but you are gallivanting and jaunting about all over the place talking about fixing Nigeria in four years, pointing to hypotheses and mental constructions as what we should expect. Please go and wash your mouth!!
During your EIGHT years in Anambra, workers were on strike for protracted periods, ditto for doctors, people died in number on account of your draconian practices, schools were shut, local government elections were not held, school fees were increased beyond the reach of families, and you molested the general psyche of your people. Once you thought of contesting for president, your style changed, your dressing changed, your eating habit changed, your gait changed, so that we would think that your principles and fundamentals have changed.
We know you, Sir. You are still that cheapskate penny-pincher who cannot convert theories to skills, who strangulated your people for eight years as you bowed to your fetish. That is why you have not, can not and most probably will not tell us your vision, captured in any manifesto. You’ve always been condemning and criticizing, but you haven’t really told us what you intend to do; your alternative policies, so we can subject them to the crucible and measure how suitable they would be for solving our problems. If you quarel with our floating the Naira, what is your alternative? If you quarel with subsidy removal, what is your alternative? If you quarel with student loans, what is your alternative?
If you quarel with infrastructure development, what is your alternative? If you quarel with increased minimum wage, what would you have offered? If you quarel with increased foreign reserves, what will be your alternative? If you quarel with tax reforms, what are your options? If you complain about local government financial autonomy, what is your suggestion? Know it too that we can not, will not and must not allow you become president of Nigeria, because you will make us suffer. Your case needs a shrink’s certification.
    A WORD FOR PETER OBI
Nigeria is vast, and so are our challenges. From Sagbama in Bayelsa to Gubio in Bornu, from Tambuwal in Sokoto to Ekpon in Edo, Nigeria is a vast land harbouring its own peculiar problems from climate change to banditry, boko haram, corruption, financial malfeasance and ethno-religious and political crises. Insecurity, boundary crises, economic exploitation, political domination, marginalization, skewed federalism, disunity, regional imbalance, and  myriad of other issues dominate public discourse, every day. Can you solve all the issues within four years? Indeed, even eight years may well not be enough to solve Nigeria’s problems, let alone four. Obviously you are telling lies about what you can and cannot do. No need to aggrandize yourself, you have already been tested. We know that you just want power. It is within your constitutional right to seek power, but please, stop making bogus statements that belittle your personality and insult us.
Your desperation for power is making you look unintelligent. We know the antecedent of your current quest from your day in Anambra. There is no magic wand in you. In fact, you have shown copious signs of being a dullard. You can be a smart business man with billions to show for it, but that’s not enough for you to excel as President.
Afegbua, a former Commissioner for Information in Edo state writes from Abuja
