The Nigeria Police have invited the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, to appear at the Force Intelligence Department in Abuja.
This follows his alleged defiance of a security ban on Durbar activities during the recent Eid-el-Fitr celebrations in Kano State.
A letter dated 4 April 2025, signed by Commissioner of Police (Operations) CP Olajide Rufus Ibitoye, asked the monarch to report by 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, 8 April 2025. It stated that the invitation relates to Sanusi’s decision to hold traditional Durbar events despite an official suspension due to security risks.
The Kano State Police, alongside other security agencies, had banned all Durbar activities before the festivities. However, reports suggest the Emir may not have fully complied with this order during the Sallah period.
The state’s Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, set up an eight-member panel to probe any breaches of the ban on Durbar and horse-riding events. The command also invited Shamakin Kano, Wada Isyaku, for questioning over similar allegations.
The Special Investigation Panel has been tasked to act quickly and ensure justice. The police warned that anyone found guilty will face the full force of the law.
