Joint security forces in Anambra State have killed a member of a secessionist group, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), and seized several items, including police uniforms.

Among the recovered goods were a Prado jeep, two AK-47 rifles, a pump-action gun, two magazines filled with live ammunition, and 15 live cartridges.

Reports indicate that other gang members escaped with gunshot wounds, while a few security personnel sustained injuries. The incident occurred around midnight on Sunday along the Uga-Ezinifite axis in the Aguata local government area.

Anambra State Police Spokesman, Superintendent Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the event but stated that no security operatives were injured during the shootout.

He said: “On 29/9/2024 by 11:30 pm, the Police-led Security Forces while on patrol within Aguata LGA, got information of suspected armed men sighted in a black-coloured Pardo Jeep along Igbo Ukwu/ Ezinifite Uga axis.

“The Operatives on an offensive approach to the scene engaged the armed men in a gun battle and demobilised one of the miscreants while others escaped.

“Also, the Security Forces recovered Two AK 47 rifles, One pump action gun, two magazines loaded with live ammunition, Fifteen live cartridges, One black Pardo jeep with two different plate numbers, Two Police body Armored Vests, Three face caps, One black handbag and different types of criminal charms.

“Meanwhile, clearance operations are still ongoing, further details shall be communicated” Ikenga said

In recent times, Anambra state has been taken over by criminals, killing and kidnapping innocent citizens daily.
