Shehu Buba Accuses Bauchi Emirate Of Political Bias After Losing Chieftaincy Title

The senator representing Bauchi South Senatorial District, Shehu Buba, has faulted the emirate council’s withdrawal of his Mujaddadin Bauchi title.

On Thursday, the council stripped Buba of his chieftaincy for allegedly insulting the state governor, Bala Mohammed. The lawmaker criticised the policies of Mohammed during the kick-off of the All Progressives Congress (APC) LG electioneering campaign in the state.

Buba said the governor has worsened the poverty index in Bauchi, adding that there is a need to ensure the accountability of resources allocated to states.

In a letter addressed to the Emir of Bauchi, expressed shock at the decision of the emirate to strip him of the chieftaincy title.

“I regret that the Bauchi Emirate Council hastily concluded this matter without providing me a fair hearing,” Buba, who is also the Chairman of the Senate Committee on National Security and Intelligence, said.

He “accepted the decision in good faith and expressed hope that Bauchi state will be rescued from the unfortunate situation.”

The Senator detailed several points in his defence, including, refuting Governor Mohammed’s claims of abuse by the Tinubu administration, while accusing the governor of mismanagement and abuse of his position in Bauchi State and highlighting that Governor Bala had received substantial financial allocations from the Federation Account, questioning the utilization of these funds given the state’s reported economic difficulties.

Senator Buba also advised the Emirate Council to avoid being entangled in political disputes and to continue focusing on its traditional duties.

“I pray for the long reign of the Emir of Bauchi in good health and for his effective leadership of the Emirate,” he concluded.
