Tinubu Approves Reconstitution Of Governing Councils, Boards For Tertiary Institutions

President Bola Tinubu has approved the reconstitution of governing councils and boards of federal universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.

This was contained in a statement by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF).

The statement read, “His Excellency, President Bola Tinubu, has approved the reconstitution of Governing Councils and Boards of Federal Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges of Education for the effective management of Nigerian tertiary institutions across the country.”

Recall that earlier in May, President Tinubu instructed a complete and thorough review of the previously announced governing boards of tertiary institutions in Nigeria before the inauguration and planned retreat for the nominees.

The leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and other stakeholders raised concerns about the list, citing alleged lopsidedness among other considerations.

Wole Olanipekun, a distinguished lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, was appointed to lead Lagos University (UNILAG); Isa Yuguda, a former Governor of Bauchi State, will chair the governing council of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN); and Yayale Ahmed, a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, was appointed to Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (ABU).
