President Bola Tinubu has approved the upgrade of the Ladoke Akintola Airport, Ibadan, to International status.

The approval follows the request of Governor Seyi Makinde to the federal government in his bid to change the status of the Ibadan facility to global status.

Governor Makinde disclosed this on Wednesday, June 26, while receiving the Chief of Air Staff of the Nigerian AirForce (NAF), Air Marshall Hassan Baba Abubakar, who paid him a courtesy visit at the Governor’s Office, State Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan.

Makinde assured that work will commence on the project as soon as he gets all the necessary and required documentation perfected from the Presidency.

He solicited the input of personnel of the Air Force in the state to ensure the projects meet the required operating standards.

Earlier in his remark, the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshall Hassan Baba Abubakar urged Governor Makinde to expedite action on its ongoing 10kilometer Ajia-Airport road to ease the movement of personnel who are already relocating to the Air Force base.

He also appealed for compensation of residents of Ajia Airforce Base so as not to hinder the performance and activities of the Force.

The Nation reports that the Chief of Air Staff is in Ibadan as part of an Operational tour to Airforce formations across the country.
