The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency has confirmed the death of four persons during an accident in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

A statement issued by the public relations officer of the government-owned agency, Babatunde Akinbiyi in Abeokuta, said the sad incident occurred when a truck rammed into the motorcycles and their passengers.

While four persons were declared dead in the accident, one person was said to have sustained injury.

He attributed the cause of the accident to a mechanical fault which resulted in a brake failure. The truck then rammed into the motorcycles in the Enugada area of Lafenwa in the state capital, killing four persons on the spot.

” according to an eyewitness, the truck developed a brake failure while descending from Itoku enroute Ago-Oba towards Enugada, Lafenwa. It rammed into two motorcycles and a Honda CRV, killing the two motorcyclists and the two pillion passengers they were both carrying, while the driver of the Honda CRV Car was injured” he said.

“Initially, six were presumed dead including the injured Honda CRV driver and a pedestrian but they were revived due to the efforts of the first responders and members of the public who gathered at the scene of the crash.

“Unfortunately, the driver and the motor boy disappeared and were nowhere to be found by the time the truck stopped.

“The bodies of the dead victims have been deposited at a hospital by the Police.”

While TRACE, FRSC and the Police commiserate with the families of the deceased, motorists were urged to service their vehicles as at when due, and ensure major mechanical components are in good working condition before setting out on a journey.
