The Nigerian Police Force has blamed the recent explosion in Niger State on unauthorised stockpiling of explosives.

Commissioner of Police in Niger State, CP Shawulu Danmamman, described the recent dynamite explosion in Sabon Pegi community, Mashegu Local Government Area, as unfortunate.

The explosion occurred due to the indiscriminate storage of dynamite in residential areas, which the community allegedly concealed.

CP Danmamman’s stand reiterated disclosure by the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake on Monday.

Alake had said preliminary investigations suggested that the explosion which occurred at a mining site in Sabon Pegi, Mashegun Local Government Area of Niger State, on Sunday, was caused by the illegal stockpiling of explosives by one Yushua Maikampala, a resident of New Bussa.

Maikampala is believed to have been involved in purchasing and storing explosives and their accessories in a house in Sabo Pegi, Mashegun Local Government Area.

Speaking further, CP Danmamman emphasised the need for public cooperation in preventing such incidents.

He said the police rely on the public to report suspicious movements or activities, adding that it is crucial in averting similar incidents.
