Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan, the current Head of the Service of the Federation (HoCSF), is set to retire on August 14, 2024. This announcement came from Mallam Mohammed Ahmed, the Director of Communications at the HoCSF office, during a gathering with media leaders as part of the 2024 Civil Service Week Celebrations.

Mohammed Ahmed noted that this event marks Dr. Yemi-Esan’s final engagement as the HoCSF, coinciding with her upcoming 60th birthday on August 13, 2024. Daily Trust highlighted the theme of this year’s Civil Service Week as ‘Educate an African Fit for the 21st Century: Building Resilient Education Systems for Increased Access to Inclusive, Lifelong, Quality and Relevant Learning in Africa.’

Yemi-Esan was appointed Acting HoCSF by former President Muhammadu Buhari on September 18, 2019, following the removal of Mrs. Winifred Ekanem Oyo-Ita. She was officially inaugurated on March 4, 2020, transitioning from her role as Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Petroleum Resources.

A native of Ikoyi, Ijumu in Kogi State, Yemi-Esan was born in Kaduna State. She attended Bishop Smith School in Ilorin, Kwara State, for her primary education, and Federal Government College, Ilorin, for secondary school. She graduated from the University of Ibadan in 1987 as the top student in dental surgery and subsequently pursued studies in health planning and management, earning a master’s degree in public and international administration.

Yemi-Esan’s career trajectory saw her ascend to the position of Federal Permanent Secretary in 2012, initially serving in various capacities within the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation and subsequently in the Federal Ministry of Information and Ministry of Education and Career Management Office (OHCSF).
