Ex-Real Madrid and Bayern Munich player James Rodriguez is set to become a free agent by mutually terminating his contract with São Paulo.

This move comes on the heels of an impressive Copa América performance, where the Colombian star demonstrated that his competitive fire is still very much alive.

Rodriguez’s standout performances in the tournament helped Colombia secure a second-place finish, and he set a new Copa America record with six assists, earning him the award for the best player of the tournament.

After shining with Colombia, Rodriguez appears ready to try his luck once more in European football.

Journalist German Garcia Grova has confirmed that Rodriguez is all set to terminate his contract with São Paulo. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Rodriguez “would love” to head back to the continent where he previously enjoyed significant success.

Romano wrote via X on Sunday, “James Rodriguez, set to be available as free agent terminating his contract by mutual agreement with São Paulo. He’s set to part ways with the club after excellent Copa América. James would love to return to European football.”

Meanwhile, Rodriguez hinted at a potential return to one of his former clubs a few months back.

Responding to a social media post by Everton Hub, which suggested he should return to Everton, Rodriguez replied, “Last dance?” This has fueled speculation that a reunion with the Premier League club could be on the cards.

Throughout his career, Rodriguez has played for some of the biggest names in European football, including Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, and Everton.

Known for his vision, creativity, and scoring ability, Rodriguez has been a key player for both club and country.
