Dr. Tope Fasua, the Special Adviser to The President on Economic Matters (Office of the Vice President) has advocated the need for the urgent creation of the South West Development Commission.
President Bola Tinubu last week signed into law bills creating the North West Development Commission (NWDC) and the South East Development Commission (SEDC).
In a post on his Facebook page, Fasua said aside the state capitals in the South-West that look beautiful, other parts of the region are depressing.
He also frowned at the popular slang ‘Ebi n Pawa ( We Are Hungry) saying it shouldn’t be a popular cliche in the South-West.
“If i count how many times they’ve given out rice and cash and how many initiatives to assuage poverty? Seems it’s so deep among some people. SW people must be careful lest we become the symbols of poverty and hunger”.
“Ebinpawa should not be a fad. Na we sabi English. Na we sabi go London. Rather than develop our lands and villages, we will invest in America, and we run away from ourselves. Thats what we see today”.
“They have approved South East Devt Commission. go to south east and see where they are already. apart from state capitals, the rest of southwest looks depressing. we need SOUTH WEST DEVT COMMISSION urgently too. No pride about it”.
