Former Delta State Governor, Chief James Onanefe Ibori has congratulated Americans following the outcome of the United States midterm elections, saying democracy and the rule of law have prevailed.
Ibori, who governed Delta State from 1999 to 2007 in a post on his verified social media platforms on Wednesday, wrote: “Good morning America. Congratulations. Democracy and the rule of law prevailed.”
The former governor’s message came after the November 3 midterm elections, in which the Democratic Party secured control of both chambers of the US Congress in a major setback for President Donald Trump and the Republican Party.
The elections, held halfway through Trump’s second term, were widely viewed as a referendum on his administration and its policies.
Democrats made significant gains in both the House of Representatives and the Senate, with voters expressing concerns over the cost of living, the economy and the direction of the country.
The outcome is expected to reshape the political landscape in Washington, with Democrats poised to exercise greater oversight of the Trump administration and influence the president’s legislative agenda.
