Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has imposed a 24-hour curfew following violent disruptions during protests against economic hardship.
In a statement released by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Tofa, the decision was announced after an Emergency State Security Council meeting addressed the escalating violence. The curfew aims to safeguard lives and protect both public and private property.
“The imposition of this curfew is a necessary measure to restore order and ensure the safety of our communities,” Tofa stated. “It is crucial that we protect our citizens from further harm and preserve the integrity of our state’s institutions and businesses.”
Governor Yusuf urged citizens to stay vigilant and united. “Let us not allow the actions of a few to divide us. Together, we can overcome these challenges and strengthen Kano State,” he added.
All security agencies have been instructed to enforce the curfew, and residents are advised to comply for their safety and the welfare of the community.
Earlier, reports indicated that hoodlums had looted and set fire to the newly built Nigeria Communication Commission Industrial Park in Kano, stealing valuable equipment such as computers, furniture, and electronics.
