Kola Ologbondiyan, immediate past National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says party members want someone from the North-Central zone to occupy the position of National Chairman of the party.
Speaking on Channels Television programme ‘Politics Today’, Ologbondiyan said that is the only way justice and fairness can be entrenched in the party.
He said the current Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, should revert to his position as the Deputy National Chairman North for genuine reconciliation to take place as the North-Central has been denied the position of the National Chairman after the suspension of Dr Iyorchia Ayu.
“As far as I am concerned, my drive and passion is to guarantee a united, one and indivisible PDP that can rescue Nigeria, maybe in conjunction with other parties. For us to progress, let there be justice”.
“What i know is that the wish of majority of party members is for Damagum to go and take his Deputy National Chairman position and allow the North Central to produce the national chairman”.
“The immediate past National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu is from the North-Central. When I watched the former Rivers State Governor and current FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike say we must have election, I was like maybe he read section 45(2) of the PDP constitution without taking into consideration what section 47(6) says because you cannot read 45(2) in isolation of what 47(6) says”.
“I am not a lawyer but the party’s constitution is written in English. The position of the North-Central is very clear. We are just demanding for justice. We are saying allow the North Central to also continue from where Ayu stopped pending the expiration of the tenure of this current leadership”.
