Torsten Frank Spittler, the coach of Amavubi of Rwanda, has tipped the Super Eagles to finish top of Group D of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. Group D has the quartet of Nigeria, Benin Republic, Rwanda and Libya.
The three-time African champions are currently leading the group with four points while Benin, Rwanda and Libya occupy the 2nd to 4th spots respectively.
The German coach, over the weekend, made it clear that he believed Super Eagles would top the group.
“It’s a difficult group but in the end, Nigeria will win the group.
“It will be Benin and us (Rwanda) who will fight for second place,” he said. Rwanda has never appeared at the African Cup of Nations tournament since 2004.
His optimism could be premised on the way the Super Eagles played the Amavubi in Kigali penultimate week where Nigeria dominated the match and even had what looked like a legitimate goal scored by Ola Aina ruled out.
Nigeria started the qualifiers with a home win over the Cheetahs of Benin Republic. In the match played at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, the Super Eagles decimated the Cheetahs 3-0 with a brace from the Atalanta forward, Ademola Lookman, and a solitary strike from the reigning African Footballer of the Year and Galatasary forward, Victor Osimhen, condemning the visitors to the abysmal defeat.
Three days after that, the Super Eagles played out the goalless draw against the Amavubi; consequently, they lead the Group D with four points, with Benin Republic trailing in the second spot with three points.
