Ahead of Tuesday’s match-day four of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier between the Super Eagles and the Mediterranean Knights of Libya in Benghazi, the president of Libyan Football Federation, Abdulhakim Alshelmani, has resigned.
The resignation, it was gathered, is not unconnected with the national team’s poor run in the qualifiers, which also included their 0–1 loss to the Super Eagles in Uyo last Friday.
The president of the federation resigned on Sunday morning following a pressure as a result of that loss to the Super Eagles.
The news about Alshelmani, regarded by many as a failed president of the Libyan Football Federation, has thrown the country’s football leadership into disarray at a critical moment.
This event comes just days before Libya’s second-leg qualifier against the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
Libya are currently bottom of the qualifying group for AFCON 2025.
