Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Sunny Onuesoke, has slammed the Federal Government over claim that 25 million Nigerians had received the N25,000 conditional cash transfer, saying Nigerians aren’t beggars.

The former governorship aspirant charged the Federal Government to provide enabling environment, create jobs and ensure that the citizens are gainfully employed instead of cash transfers.

While reacting to the cash transfer claim made by the Minister of Finance and coordinating minister of the economy, Wale Edun, he said he hasn’t heard of anyone who had received the cash transfer, however saying even if it is true, it remained condemnable.

Consequently, Onuesoke strongly condemned the act of giving cash gifts to Nigerians, wondering if the government is turning them into beggars. He argued that throwing money at poverty would only increase poverty and deplete the value of the Naira.

He emphasised that the government should create an enabling environment and stop giving palliatives, as Nigerians are known for their strong and dependable minds.

He described the cash transfer initiative as a temporary and superficial solution that fails to address the root causes of poverty. Instead, he advised the government to prioritise policies that empower individuals and communities, promoting self-worth and dignity beyond short-term measures.
