The National Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mahmood Yakubu has assured that the commission will overcome the challenges of prompt opening of polling units and effective management of results in the November 16 Governorship Election in Ondo state.
Yakubu gave the assurance on Monday when he arrived Akure ,the state capital for a three day assessment visit ahead of next week’s election.
The INEC Chairman while speaking to journalists said the Commission will be meeting with various stakeholders within the next few days with the aim of ensuring a transparent exercise.
He said part of the engagement will involve meeting with political parties, civil society organizations, the media, and security agencies.
According to him, the commission will also conduct a mock accreditation exercise in sixteen polling units across six local government areas within the three senatorial zones of the state and also oversee the signing of a peace accord among political parties and candidates.
The INEC Chairman on the first day of the assessment visit commissioned a Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) Storage Facility centre within the INEC office in Akure .
