The Delta State Government, on Monday, approved a budget proposal of N936 billion for the 2025 fiscal year.

The state Commissioner for Economic Planning, Mr Sunny Ekedayen, disclosed this while briefing newsmen on the outcome of the State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.

Ekedayen who was flanked by the State Commissioner for Information, Dr. Ifeanyi Osuoza, Commissioner for Works (Rural and Riverine Roads) Mr. Charles Aniagwu and Commissioner for Directorate of Riverine Infrastructural Development, Chief Ebikeme Clark, said the budget proposal would be transmitted to the State House of Assembly.

He said: “The principal makeup is;  recurrent, N348, 717, 758, 635, representing 37.25 percent of the budget;;Capital expenditure, N587,361,060, 084  representing 62.75 percent of the budget.

“By way of comparison, the budget proposal for 2025 is 29.12 percent bigger than that of the current year, 2024. 

“Emphasis, as always, is on the focus areas; agriculture, micro, small, and medium enterprises, youths and tourism, entertainment, social safety and poverty alleviation, physical infrastructure and education.”

Also speaking, the State Commissioner for Information, Mr. Ifeanyi Osuoza said:  “Exco advised contractors whose projects have stayed with them for the past one year and refused to mobilise to site, that such projects will be determined.

“We cannot wait for any contractor to mobilise to site as it pleases them. There is zero tolerance to such delays. Every project has the advantage of this dry season and every serious contractor should mobilise to site.”
