Three members of the Community Vigilante Services (AVS) were on Monday killed by gunmen suspected to be enforcing Sit-At-Home in Ukpo, Dunukofia Local Government Area of Anambra State and set their vehicle ablaze.

Seven others, SaharaReporters reports, were injured during the attack. The attackers also stormed Abatete community in Idemili North, resulting in one reported death.
However, one man suspected to be the President General of Ukpo town and a vigilante narrowly escaped death. They, however, sustained varying degrees of bullet wounds.

Eyewitnesses who spoke to journalists describe the chaos, with gunmen shouting “No Biafra, No Freedom” while firing sporadically.
They said the incident occurred when the gunmen stormed the Ukpo roundabout, shooting sporadically and targeting a Toyota Sienna minibus carrying the vigilante members.
One of the eyewitnesses recounted, “They came from nowhere, shooting sporadically and chanting ‘no Biafra, no freedom.’ People started running for safety.”
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident, stating that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ukpo Community is investigating the incident.
Governor Chukwuma Soludo recently ordered all markets in the state to open and not to obey the sit-at-home order by criminals, which the traders at Ukpo complied with before the incident.
