Arise TV journalist and former media aide to the president, Reuben Abati, on Tuesday says Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy is the head of the presidential media team.
Earlier, Daniel Bwala who resumed office yesterday as Special Adviser, Media and Public Communication had claimed that he was the spokesperson to President Bola Tinubu, adding that he is now occupying the position vacated by Ajuri Ngelale, the president’s former spokesperson.
However, in a State House release issued by the Onanuga, titled, ‘President Tinubu approves restructuring of media and communications team’ , President Tinubu said Onanuga; Sunday Dare and Daniel Bwala, are to work jointly as his spokespersons.
Reacting to the statement, Abati said the fact that the statement by the president was signed by Onanuga clearly shows that he is the head of the media team.
“He (Bwala) has just been reminded in the statement issued before he left that briefing by Mr. Bayo Onanuga that ‘okay, we have three persons who will speak and we were told that he will now be in charge of Policy Communication, which is just the lower end. He can go to the public and talk about policies”.
“But Mr. Onanuga signing the statement shows that he is the leader of the team. Sunday Dare whose name was also mentioned used to be Mr. Onanuga’s staff. But I think that in days to come we will get clarity and President Tinubu himself must avoid confusion because in-fighting within the communication process can confuse the public”.
