President Bola Tinubu has blamed the organisers of palliative distribution that led to the stampedes which claimed several lives for not putting in place adequate measures to ensure that it was orderly.

The President who said there was an error on the side of the organisers, noted that in the past 25 years he has been involved in arms giving including giving out food stuffs and commodities in his Lagos country home.

Fielding questions during his first Presidential Media Chat in Lagos, the President said despite the unfortunate situation, things are improving.

He said, “I have been giving out food stuffs, commodities including envelopes in Bourdillion in the last 25 years. I have never experienced this kind of incident because we were organised, disciplined.

“If you know you don’t have enough to give, don’t attempt to publicise it… Every society even in America, there are hungry people.”

He noted that in such countries like Britain and America, the people are organised and would be on line and take turns to collect.

While describing the palliative stampedes as unfortunate, the President said it was a reflection where people don’t want to be on queue but would prefer to rush.

“It is very sad but we will continue to learn from our mistakes. To me I perceive this as a very grave error on the part of the organisers but things are improving, it doesn’t kill our happiness for the season.”
