The Ogun State Police have invited Oba Abdulsemiu Adewale Ogunjobi, the Olorile of Orile-Ifo, for questioning over allegations of assaulting Chief Arinola Abraham.

Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the invitation on Monday, stating, “The Monarch has been invited to the State Police Command today for interrogation. No individual holds authority over the Nigeria Police Force. An investigation is underway, and justice will be served.”

The Ogun State Government has also suspended the monarch for six months, citing his “conduct unbecoming of a traditional ruler”. The suspension followed an investigation initiated by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, who summoned both Oba Ogunjobi and the alleged victim.

A report stated, “Following the investigation, the Kabiyesi has been suspended and stripped of the paraphernalia of the stool of Olorile-Ifo, pending the determination of his culpability or otherwise.”

The controversy stems from a two-minute video that surfaced online, showing Chief Arinola Abraham kneeling on the road while Ogunjobi, a retired police officer, insults him. The monarch accuses Arinola of conspiracy and threatens legal action. Ogunjobi boasts of his influence over law enforcement, claiming he can have the chief jailed.

In the footage, a man accompanying Ogunjobi slaps Arinola and orders him to prostrate before the monarch, while Ogunjobi angrily declares in Yoruba, “You are a conspirator… it will never be well with you, your wife, and children…”
