The Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on the EFCC to investigate the financial misconduct behind the suspension of Attorney-General Samson Osagie and Local Government Service Commission Chairman Damian Lawani.

PDP Chairman Tony Aziegbemi said on Thursday that the suspensions confirmed concerns over financial mismanagement under Governor Monday Okpebholo. The suspensions followed allegations of financial irregularities.

On 5 February 2025, the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Ikhilor, confirmed the action and announced an investigative committee.

The letter stated: “Governor Monday Okpebholo has approved the suspension of Hon. Damian Lawani and Hon. Samson Osagie over financial misconduct. A committee will investigate the allegations, and they will remain suspended until the inquiry is complete.”

Osagie denied the claims, saying, “I have never been involved in financial wrongdoing. I was not confronted with these allegations before my suspension. I am ready to defend my reputation.”

Aziegbemi accused the government of systemic corruption, claiming the suspensions revealed only a fraction of the mismanagement. “The government has undermined local councils, misused funds, and damaged the state’s revenue,” he said. “We call on the EFCC and relevant agencies to investigate.”

The APC’s Peter Uwadiae-Igbinigie said the party would release a statement on the matter on Friday.
