England and Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins has announced his engagement to his fiancée, Ellie Alderson.
The 28-year-old shared the joyous news on Instagram, posting a collection of photos with Ellie and captioning it, “Future wifey!! It was only right.”
Watkins and Alderson have been together since 2018 and are parents to two children, a daughter and a son.
The announcement comes on the heels of a remarkable month for Watkins, who scored a crucial goal for England in the Euro 2024 semifinal against the Netherlands, sending the Three Lions into the final.
Aston Villa, where Watkins has played since 2020, along with his teammates Morgan Rogers and John McGinn, extended their congratulations to the couple.
Reflecting on his last-minute goal against the Netherlands on 11 July, Watkins described the moment as happening in “slow motion,” expressing his desire to savor the experience fully.
“I just wanted to soak it all in because it doesn’t happen often, obviously,” he said, noting the hard work that led to that moment.
England captain Harry Kane praised Watkins, saying, “Ollie has been waiting, patiently, and what he did was outstanding. He deserves it.” Despite Watkins’ efforts, the team lost to Spain 2-1 in the final.
