The Borno State Government has declared a 24-hour curfew across the state following a tragic explosion at Kawori Market in the Konduga area on Wednesday night. The explosion, attributed to a Boko Haram suicide bomber, resulted in 16 deaths and several critical injuries.

Police Public Relations Officer ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso issued a press release on Thursday regarding the curfew, which was implemented after consultations between Governor Babagana Zulum and security officials. The curfew aims to restore law and order and ensure public safety in the wake of the incident.

The statement read: “In view of the constitutional mandate of the Nigeria Police Force and other relevant security and law enforcement agencies toward the preservation of law and order in the state, you are all aware of the incident at Kawori involving the detonation of an improvised explosive device that led to 16 deaths and critical injuries to several others, who are currently receiving treatment in various government hospitals.

“In line with our constitutional mandate toward the restoration of law and order, His Excellency the Executive Governor of Borno State, Prof. Babagana Umar Zulum, in consultation with heads of security in the state, has declared a 24-hour curfew with immediate effect.”

Residents are urged to remain calm and comply with the curfew. Further updates will be provided as the situation develops.
