President Bola Tinubu has expressed sadness over the stampede that occured in Ibadan, Oyo State. This is as he also commiserated with families of the victims.

In a statement by Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu also condoled with the Government and people of Oyo State and the grieving families.

Tinubu said he stood in solidarity during this time of mourning, offering prayers for the souls of those who perished in this unfortunate event.

Tinubu directed relevant authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy. He underscored the necessity of determining whether negligence or deliberate actions contributed to this heartbreaking incident. “It is imperative that we ensure a transparent and accountable process to uncover the truth,” he stated.

Tinubu also urged the Oyo State Government to take immediate and necessary measures to prevent such tragedies from recurring in the future.

He called for a comprehensive review of safety protocols for public events, strict enforcement of safety regulations, and regular audits of event venues to safeguard attendees.

He appealed to event organisers to prioritise the safety of all participants, especially children. He highlighted the critical need for professional security measures, proper logistics, and adherence to safety protocols at all events. “Our children’s safety and well-being remain paramount. No event should ever compromise their safety or take precedence over their lives,” he asserted.

The First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, also condoled with Governor Seyi Makinde and the people of Oyo State.

In a statement she personally signed, Mrs Tinubu said, “I sympathize with the family friends, and loved ones of the deceased.

“I also pray for speedy recovery and total healing for those who are still in the hospital.

May the Lord grant peace to Oyo state, comfort to the families who have lost their loved ones and hope to those grieving at this time.

”My heartfelt condolences to all those affected by this devastating incident,” she added.

The stampede occurred as attendees rushed for food and gifts at the event, highlighting the need for improved crowd management at large gatherings.
