US-Based Nigerian Cardiologist Allegedly Takes Own Life After Losing Child Support Case

A 36-year-old Nigerian cardiologist, Dr. Ikenna Erinne, has reportedly died by suicide today in the United States following a court ruling that required him to pay $15,000 in monthly child support to his ex-wife.

Dr. Erinne, originally from Anambra State, Nigeria, had been embroiled in a prolonged and contentious divorce battle, which also involved custody issues surrounding their children. The court’s decision to side with his ex-wife in the child support case proved financially devastating for the doctor, ultimately leading to his death.

Clayton Udo, a Nigerian-American, took to social media to confirm the news and shared his concerns about the legal challenges facing African men in the U.S. He stated, “The abuse of African men in the USA must come to an end,” referencing the impact of the court’s ruling on Dr. Erinne’s mental and financial well-being. Udo, who claims expertise in psychological and mental abuse, further revealed that the late cardiologist had spent significant amounts on legal fees before losing his professional license and eventually taking his life.

A fellow member of the Nigerian community, Obim Onujiogu, also confirmed Dr. Erinne’s death and shared details about the funeral arrangements. According to Onujiogu, the service will take place on Monday, February 3, 2025, at the Gary L. Kaufman Funeral Home in Elkridge, Maryland, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by interment at Meadowridge Memorial Park.

Dr. Erinne, born March 4, 1988, was remembered as a compassionate doctor and devoted family man. He is survived by his children, Ugonna and Munachi, as well as his parents, Engr. Chris and Mrs. Chinwe Erinne, and siblings Chuks, Onyi, Kenny, and Gechi.
