2027: Ex- Minister Explains Why Nigerians Should Give Tinubu A Second Term

A former Minister of State for Science and Technology, Chief Henry Ikechukwu Ikoh has said he expects Nigerians to reelect President Bola Tinubu for another four-year term in 2027.

Speaking in an interview with The Nation, Ikoh said the president should be allowed to finish the reforms he has started which has put Nigeria on the path of greatness.

His words “I expect Nigerians to revalidate President Tinubu’s tenure for a second term. He needs to finish the reforms and unleash the country to the path of continued prosperity and greatness. Politicians should play by the rules and avoid heating up the polity”.

On the clamour by the Northern powerbrokers to return power to the region in 2027, Ikoh urged them to respect the principle of zoning and allow the Southern region to complete eight years from 2023 till 2031.

“I support the wisdom of our political forebearers. They reasoned that limitless concentration of political power in the hands of a section of the country is a recipe for instability and social upheavals. Rotation of presidential power between the north and the south is one of the most cherished legacies of our democratic rule since 1999, and any attempt to distort it is an invitation to anarchy and a resurgence of separatist sentiments”.

“So, in 2027, our brothers from the north should support the South to complete her eight-year presidency. National stability should be promoted by our actions and utterances, and not politics of destabilization”.
