An Ogun State High Court sitting in Abeokuta has convicted and sentenced three individuals to death by hanging for the gruesome murder of a couple, Kehinde and Bukola Fatinoye, and their only son, Oreoluwa, on New Year’s Day in 2023.

The presiding judge, Justice Basirat Adebowale, delivered the judgment after a session that lasted more than three hours. The three convicts—Adekanbi Lekan, who was the driver of the deceased, along with Odetola Ahmed and Adeniyi Waheed—were found guilty of conspiracy, armed robbery, and murder.

The tragic incident occurred in the early hours of January 1, 2023. Mr. Kehinde, a former employee of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), and his wife, Bukola, attended the 2022/2023 crossover service at Christ Anglican Church, Iporo-Ake, Abeokuta, along with their son, Oreoluwa. After the church service, they returned to their residence on Oba Karunwi Road, a street located behind the home of former Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun, in the Ibara GRA area of Abeokuta.

Unbeknownst to them, they were being trailed by their assailants. At about 1:30 AM, the attackers broke into their home, robbed them, and brutally killed the couple before setting their house on fire. Their son, Oreoluwa, was also killed in the attack.
