Anambra First Lady Defends Soludo Against Arrogance Claims

The wife of Anambra State governor, Dr Nonye Soludo, has said her husband, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, is not arrogant and unwilling to listen to others, contrary to the claims made by the opposition politicians, insisting that her husband is a jovial and a family man.

The First Lady, while dismissing the claims, described them as politically motivated falsehoods designed to mislead the public, especially as the governorship election in the state is fast approaching.

Speaking to journalists at the Anambra Governor’s Lodge in Amawbia on Friday, Mrs Soludo painted a different picture of the governor, describing him as a jovial and family-oriented man who values the opinions of others.

She emphasised that while her husband is serious about his work, this should not be mistaken for arrogance.

Recalling their time together at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, where Soludo was a lecturer, she noted that his intense focus on work often led people to misinterpret his personality.

She said, “My husband is not arrogant and unwilling to listen to others, contrary to the claims made by the opposition politicians. He is a jovial and family man.

“He is a jovial and family-oriented man who values the opinions of others. While he is serious about his work, this should not be mistaken for arrogance.

“As a lecturer at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, his intense focus on work often led people to misinterpret his personality. Students feared him due to his strict approach to academics, but behind the seriousness was a man with a great sense of humour.

“My friends were surprised that I could be in a relationship with someone they considered too strict, not realising that he had a fun and jovial side.”

Mrs Soludo also reflected on the challenges her family faced during her husband’s tenure as governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, revealing that they received multiple threats, which forced her to take their children abroad for safety.

Despite this, she said, her husband remained resolute, believing that he was fighting for a just cause.

“He is very much approachable. He actively encourages dialogue and values diverse opinions. The negative portrayal of the governor is by political opponents who are deliberately spreading misinformation.

“My husband’s focus on delivering good governance should not be misinterpreted as arrogance. I urged the people of Anambra to see beyond political propaganda and judge the governor by his actions and commitment to the state’s development,” she added.
