Former presidential spokesperson Doyin Okupe will be laid to rest in his hometown, Iperu-Remo, Ogun State, on March 28, 2025.

According to an official announcement, his burial rites will commence on Saturday, March 22, with a commendation service at the Redeemed Christian Church of God, City of David, Abuja.

On Thursday, March 27, a Service of Songs and a Day of Tributes will take place at Trinity House, Water Corporation Drive, Victoria Island, Lagos, at 11 a.m. Later that day, a wake will be held at Agbonmagbe Castle, Sagamu-Iperu Road, Ogun State, at 4 p.m.

Okupe’s lying-in-state is scheduled for Friday, March 28, at Agbonmagbe Castle at 9:30 a.m., followed by the burial service at Methodist Church, Akesan Road, Iperu-Remo, at 10 a.m. He will be interred shortly after.

Okupe passed away in Lagos at the age of 72 on March 7, 2025. He served as Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to former President Olusegun Obasanjo and later as Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs to former President Goodluck Jonathan.

He was also the Director-General of Peter Obi’s 2023 presidential campaign but resigned in December 2022 after being convicted of violating certain provisions of the Money Laundering Act. Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu found him guilty of accepting cash payments exceeding the legal threshold without going through a financial institution.

Following the 2023 elections, Okupe left the Labour Party and later became a vocal supporter of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, actively participating in political discussions and analysis.

Beyond politics, he was a medical doctor and co-founder of Royal Cross Medical Centre. He also served as National Publicity Secretary of the National Republican Convention and was a former governorship aspirant under the Peoples Democratic Party in Ogun State.
