The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is currently in a closed door meeting with the leadership of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) at the headquarters of the electoral umpire in Abuja.
The high-calibre delegates of the party comprised the National Chairman, Umar Damagun, former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, serving senators, Seriake Dickson, Abba Moro, four governors, comprising Bauchi, Bala Mohammed, Zamfara, Dauda Lawal Dare, Oyo, Seyi Makinde, Plateau, Caleb Mutfwang, other party chieftains like  Senator Ben Obi, Ahmed Makarafi among others.
Conspicuously missing at the meeting includes the duo of Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu and Udeh Okoye and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Speaking in his opening remarks, the PDP Acting Chairman said that their mission was to ascertain the status of the party’s national secretary and the position of the commission concerning the party’s proposed National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting scheduled for the end of this month.
“First I want to use this opportunity to thank you and your members for giving us this opportunity to interact with you. I believe this is one of its kind, maybe the first time.
“Normally when we have issues, the party always comes and interacts with INAC, but today you’ve given us the opportunity with our leaders from various organs of the party to be here.
“I think I will not stop but to thank you sincerely for this opportunity. We’re here today as you are aware we have issues pertaining the status of our national security.
“We have gone into litigation I think from the beginning of last year until when the Supreme Court, you know, make a pronouncement of which INEC was a party.
“We are here today to discuss and interact with you sincerely because we had NEC and there was a decision of NEC which mandated me to sign a letter to avoid controversy. And I received your reply on that letter,” he said.
In this response, INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, frowned at the inconsistent position of the party’s leadership over the the national secretary, promising that it would form part of the discussion during the meeting.
