Nigeria has lost one of its foremost nationalists and elder statesmen, Pa Ayo Adebanjo, who passed away peacefully at his Lekki residence on Friday, February 14, 2025, at the age of 96.

The family, in an official statement, described Chief Samuel Ayodele Adebanjo as a selfless leader, distinguished lawyer, and a committed advocate of true federalism. He was the former Organising Secretary of the Action Group and the National Leader of Afenifere, a pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation.

He is survived by his 94-year-old wife, Chief Christy Ayo-Adebanjo, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

The family expressed deep gratitude for his unwavering dedication to justice, equity, and national progress, stating that he fought tirelessly for a better Nigeria until his last breath.

Plans for his funeral are being discussed with his friends, associates, and various interest groups across Nigeria. Further details will be announced in due course.

A condolence register has been opened at his Lekki residence (8, Ayo Adebanjo Close, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos) and his country home in Isanya Ogbo, near Ijebu Ode, Ogun State.
