Leader of the pan-Yoruba sociocultural organisation, Afenifere, Chief Reuben Fasoranti is dead.

    He was aged 100.

Fasoranti, who hailed from Akure, the Ondo State capital, was a prominent figure in the Yoruba race and an elder statesman till he breathed his last on Tuesday.

Ondo State Governor, Hon Lucky Aiyedatiwa, announced the death of Fasoranti, describing the late elder statesman as a symbol of wisdom, integrity and selfless service.

Aiyedatiwa said Fasoranti made significant contributions to the development of Ondo State, Yorubaland and Nigeria, adding that his counsel, fatherly guidance and principled stand on justice and good governance would be sorely missed.

The governor, on behalf of the government and people of Ondo State, commiserated with the Fasoranti family, the people of Akure Kingdom and the entire Yoruba nation over the loss.

He prayed for the peaceful repose of the deceased’s soul.

Fasoranti had recently celebrated his 100th birthday with prominent Nigerians in attendance.

The birthday was celebrated in Akure and Lagos by members of Afenifere and prominent leaders of the Yoruba race and politicians.
