23-time Grand Slam winner Serena Williams says “all is ok” after undergoing surgery to remove a benign branchial cyst from her neck.

The four-time Olympic gold medallist posted a video on social media on Wednesday to reveal the news that the cyst, which was “the size of a small grapefruit” has been removed.

The 43-year-old said she discovered a lump on her neck in May but after an MRI scan, doctors told her that she could decide not to remove it.

Williams added that she chose the option of not removing it but changed her mind after it kept growing, which led to her decision to undergo the procedure for its removal so as to prevent an infection or leakage.

She posted a video of herself in a hospital bed and wrote: “So this is me removing it. I am feeling so grateful, and fortunate everything worked out, and most of all I’m healthy.”

“I am feeling so grateful, and fortunate everything worked out, and most of all I’m healthy.”

Williams, who is arguably the greatest female tennis player ever, retired in 2022, and remains the woman with the most Grand Slams in the history of the sport. She also clinched 14 Slams in doubles with her older sister Venus, adding to her 73 WTA Tour titles.
