The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has commended former President Muhammadu Buhari for his solid reaffirmation of loyalty to the party.

Reacting to a media report by the former Kaduna Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai that he got the approval of the former President before he defected from the ruling APC to the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Buhari said he will never turn his back against the ruling party.

El-Rufai, during an interview with BBC Hausa was quoted to have said: “I left the APC with his (Buhari) full knowledge. I visited him on a Friday and informed him of my decision to leave the party because I consult with him on all my matters“.

But Buhari through media aide, Malam Garba Shehu reaffirmed his loyalty and commitment to the party, insisting that he is still an APC member.

Commending the patriotic stand of the former President, APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka in a statement on Saturday in Abuja urged party members to emulate Buhari’s action.

“We applaud the former President for swiftly clearing the air and putting distance to efforts by certain individuals to tacitly associate him with their nonplussed political choices.

“The former President’s unalloyed loyalty to our great Party, the platform on which he was twice elected as President, has further reinforced his reputation of astute integrity and dignified elder statesman,” Morka maintained.
