‘At Home Praying For Me’: Aiyedatiwa Speaks On Why Wife Was Absent Throughout Campaign

Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa has addressed speculations over the whereabouts of his wife, Oluwaseun Aiyedatiwa throughout the election campaign.

Throughout her husband’s rise from Deputy Governor to Acting Governor, substantive Governor and even during the campaign , the First Lady was not visible but was present on Monday when the governor was sworn -in.

Some critics of Aiyedatiwa believed that his wife left due to violence, others claimed political manoeuvring forced her away. During the election, the opposition also used it against him, saying a man who could not manage the affairs of his home should not be entrusted with the management of the state.

There were also rumours few days ago that the couple have reconciled and Mrs Aiyedatiwa has returned home to the Government House.

However speaking on Channels TV shortly after his inauguration, the governor said during the campaign, his wife was at home praying for him.

“Yes, I can tell you that during the campaign, I was out there with my deputy and our supporters. But don’t forget, while you are there at the studio now, your wife is not there with you. Is she there with you? No, you are at work. So, I see that as being at work. And you don’t take your wife to your place of work. At the time we were running on the streets campaigning, she is back home there, praying for us. But today is a ceremonial occasion and she was there”.

Governor Aiyedatiwa also described election in Nigeria as a war, saying no soldier takes the wife to the war front.

He said despite the antics of the opposition, the people of Ondo state knew the truth about his marriage and that was why they voted massively for him during the election.

“When you are at the war front, you don’t take your wife to the war front anyway. You know that election in this part of the world is like you are going to war. No soldier takes his wife to the war front. They sit back at home praying but after the war, and the ceremony comes, then they will show up”.
