The hassle associated with processing and issuance of Nigerian passports to individuals will soon be over as the citizens will soon start processing their passports right from their homes. However, only Nigerians who are 18 years and above, and those who are applying for re-issue of their expired passports will be able to process and obtain the contactless passports while fresh applicants will need to appear and register their biometrics at a passport processing centre for their passports. The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has described as unconstitutional, the decision of the Nigeria Police Force, NPF, not to provide security for the Local Government elections scheduled to hold in Rivers State on Saturday. NBA, which is the umbrella body of legal practitioners in the country, in a statement that was signed by its President, Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, maintained that police have a statutory responsibility to ensure adequate security in the state, during and after the elections. The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has said troops on operations across the country killed 118, arrested 97 suspected criminals, and rescued 96 kidnap victims in the past week. It said troops destroyed 44 illegal refineries and seized 602,200 litres of stolen crude, 64,900 litres of illegally refined diesel, 12,690 litres of petrol, and arrested oil thieves in the Niger Delta region. A former Inspector-General of Police, Mike Okiro, said the amendment of Section 7 (6) of the Police Act 2020 to allow for a four-year tenure for the office of the IG would stabilise the police system. Governor Usman Ododo of Kogi State has empowered 8,000 youths and women with N100,000 Livelihood Support Grants for their existing and new businesses. Israel’s military said Thursday it had hit Hezbollah’s intelligence headquarters in the Lebanese capital, Beirut, as troops battled militants near the border and warplanes bombarded their strongholds around the country.
