Marian Robinson, the mother of former US First Lady Michelle Obama, has died at 86. In a statement, her family said that Robinson had died “peacefully” on Friday morning. Robinson was a well-known fixture at the White House during the eight years of Barack Obama’s administration between 2009-17. The Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), Akintunde Sawyerr, has disclosed the fund’s plan for students to repay back the loan. Sawyer, while speaking on Friday’s edition of Channels Television’s Politics Today, explained that students who take loans from the fund are expected to report to NELFUND two years after completion of their mandatory one-year National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) yesterday declared an indefinite strike effective Monday, June 2 after the latest negotiation with the federal government on the new minimum wage and the recent hike of electricity tariff ended in a deadlock. Friday’s talks on minimum wage between the Federal Government and Organised Labour hit a brick wall when the government failed to shift grounds on the N60,000 it proposed during the last meeting.
